HOW DO THERAPEUTIC LASERS WORK?

Therapeutic medical lasers heal tissue ailments by injecting billions of photons of visible & invisible laser light deep into tissue structures. Human tissue naturally contains protein strands called chromophores & cytochromes located in the mitochondria of a cell, which have the unique ability to absorb laser light energy & transform it into chemical energy for the cell. The laser light is beamed into the body tissue around an injured or abnormal area. The resultant chemical energy is utilized by the target tissue on a cellular level to significantly accelerate the healing process & reduce pain & inflammation in the body naturally.

There is an absolute increase in microcirculation, leading to higher rates of cell synthesis, and thus improved tissue oxygenation & nutrition.

The laser light is able to penetrate as much as 4” deep into the tissue to stimulate healing.

WHAT ARE THE PHYSICAL EFFECTS OF LASER THERAPY?

Lasers supply energy to the body in the form of non-thermal photons of light. The energy absorbed is converted into chemical energy in the cells that allows improved circulation & lymph flow, reduction of scar tissue & deposits, new soft-tissue growth & less pain. This process is curative & eliminates symptoms such as pain & swelling.

Is There Documented Clinic Proof?

Yes! Over 2000 clinical studies worldwide have proven the success of therapeutic lasers in the healing of neural muscular-skeletal conditions. Theralase ( the manufacturer of the system we use at Life Chiropractic ) has performed a blinded randomized control study on chronic knee pain proving the clinical efficacy & safety of Theralase therapeutic laser technology & achieving FDA approval.

Benefits Of Cold Laser Therapy

  • Relieves pain both acute & chronic
  • Reduces swelling & inflammation:laser light  reduces swelling caused by bruising or inflammation of joints to provide enhanced joint mobility.
  • Increases quality & tensile strength of repaired tissue
  • Promotes faster wound healing: laser light stimulates fibroblast development & accelerates collagen synthesis in damaged tissue.
  • Generates new healthy cells & tissues: laser light accelerates cellular reproduction & growth.
  • Develops collagen,cartilage & muscle tissue
  • Reduced fibrous tissue formation: laser light reduces the formation of scar tissue following tissue damage from cuts, scatches, burns or post-surgery.
  • Increased Metabolic Activity: higher outputs of specific enzymes, greater oxygen & food particle loads for blood cells & thus greater production of the basic food source for cells; Adenosine Tri-Phosphate (ATP).
  • Increased Vascular Activity: laser light induces temporary vasodilation increasing blood flow & oxygenation to damaged ares.
  • Softens existing scar tissue
  • Stimulates the immune system
  • Stimulates nerve function: slow recovery of nerve function in damaged tissue can result in ‘dead’ limbs or numb areas. Laser light  speeds up the process of nerve cell reconnection to bring the numb areas back to life.

Are There Any Harmful Side-effects To Cold Laser Therapy?

No! Therapeutic laser treatment is a non-invasive healing technique that only utilizes harmless, yet effective light to stimulate tissue healing. It is painless, non-invasive & non-toxic. In 30 years of extensive use in Canada & Europe there have been no reported side-effects. It is approved by Health Canada.

SOME POPULAR LASER TREATABLE CONDITIONS INCLUDE: lower back pain, neck pain, arthritis, heel pain, knee pain, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, shoulder pain, sinusitis, tendinitis, sprains, strains, carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), hip pain, bursitis, rotator cuff injuries, post-operative pain, acute & chronic sports injuries, cold sores, wrinkles, acne, wounds/sutures, fibromyalgia.

How Long Does It Take For Recovery

Each patient will be assessed individually to determine the exact protocol needed for their specific condition. Treatments may last as little as 5 minutes or as long as 15 minutes. The total number of treatments required is usually 6 – 20 depending upon the body’s natural healing rate. This will be different for each patient. The less severe or the less chronic the condition, the fewer treatments required. The more severe or chronic, the greater number of treatments required. The results are usually rapid & sustainable. In our clinic, we find 80% of patients experience significant relief within the first 3 – 6 treatments, & a lasting effect after 12 – 18 .again, each patient will respond differently according to their own body’s condition & natural healing rate.

I have continued with monthly maintenance treatments and to date have been free from any cold sores. “ I just wanted to let you know how Laser Therapy has helped with my sinusitis. Two years ago I had sinusitis & my physician treated me with antibiotics. This did nothing to lessen the pain of my excruciating sinus headaches that took 2 months to go away. In July, the sinusitis came back with a vengeance. Antibiotics,5 –7 advils per day & ice packs did not help. I was getting as little as 2 hours sleep at night. However, after 3 laser sessions in 5 days, the headaches stopped. Three weeks later I could sleep on my right side without sinus pressure building up for the first time in 2 months. Once I completed the course of Laser Therapy sessions I had clear sinuses and could detect scents I had not smelled in 3 years. Thanks to you & your staff for this life improving therapy.” R.P./ Life Chiropractic patient
