If you have been to chiropractors before, you have probably made the following observations for yourself;
1 – different spinal adjusting techniques.
2 – different explanations of what chiropractic is.
3 – some chiropractors require you to stay on a schedule of care whereas others may not.
4 – some blend various forms of physical therapies into their treatments ( hot packs, cold packs, electricity etc. ).
5 – some chiropractors see a lot of children whereas others may not.
6 – some chiropractors require you get a spinal xray whereas others may not.
7 – some chiropractors will talk about subluxations whereas others may not.
The whole purpose of these articles I prepare for you is to help clear any confusion or misconceptions you may have about chiropractic care, & teach you about what chiropractic really is & its many health benefits. Because the fact of the matter is, if you had a good grasp of what chiropractic is really all about, there would be no way in this world you would ever not have your spine adjusted on a regular basis. And moreover, you would make sure that chiropractic treatments would be the number 1 priority for all your children plus everyone else you care about.
Let us clarify what a subluxation is because you will hear some chiropractors use this word regularly. And if you are learning about subluxations, you are probably in a pretty good place.
A subluxation ( a partial or incomplete dislocation of a vertebra ) has 2 components; spinal misalignment and nerve interference. And do not ever think that you do not have subluxations in your spine. Everybody does – it is impossible not to regardless of pain or symptoms you may or may not be experiencing. Abnormal or poor posture is a type of subluxation because it has the necessary 2 components; spinal misalignment and nerve interference. Poor posture also adversely affects spinal flexibility and range of motion.
Here is the important stuff that you need to know. This is how poor/abnormal posture and poor spinal flexibility affect your nerve system:
1—abnormal input into your central nerve system. [parents pay attention here] Abnormal input into the central nerve system has been linked to sudden infant death syndrome, balance problems, visual disturbances, tinnitus ( ringing/buzzing in ears ) and impaired development of the pediatric central nerve system.
2 – tethering ( adverse prolonged stretching of the spinal cord in the neck resulting from loss of neck curve, forward head posture &/or hump back ) will result in motor and sensory impairment. Tethering of the spinal cord has also been linked to demylenating diseases such as multiple sclerosis, optic neuritis & Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
3 – dysfunction of nerve transmission/electrical nerve interference has been linked to altered expression of one’s DNA.
4 – accelerated spinal joint degenerative disease and subsequent mechanical irritation of spinal nerves.
All of the influences listed above ( 1 to 4 ) involve the sympathetic part of your nerve system. It has been established that the sympathetic part of your nerve system is the primary controlling factor in immunity and this is how abnormal posture & spinal motion adversely impacts one’s individual health & well-being.
And you thought that chiropractic was not appropriate for kids?! Or, you thought it was only good for your aches & pains. Well, I now hope that you are seriously thinking again!
The goal of a corrective spinal adjusting technique ( such as the one we practice at Life Chiropractic Centre ) is to:
1 – correct poor posture & spinal range of motion to the greatest degree.
2 – minimize spinal degeneration.
3 – improve overall function of your central nerve system.
4 – improve your overall systemic heath.
What better gift is there that you can give to your children? What better gift is there that you can give to yourself?
And just to be clear about one thing … a drop-in, country club type of chiropractic office cannot offer you these benefits. It is impossible. Spinal health & hygiene requires a regular approach just like your diet, your exercise program & your dental health. But what type of chiropractor you choose all depends upon your priorities and what is important to you and your children.
If you would like to make an appointment to have your spine checked or you would like to refer someone to our office whom you know needs our help, it is easy.
