Many of my female patients often ask me if they are going to get the old lady hump just like their mother and/or their grandmother.
This hump develops at the base of the neck and results from forward head posture ( FHP ) and rounding of the shoulders forward.
What causes this is lack of attention towards maintaining good spinal hygiene ( especially ), sitting a lot at a computer and even poorly fitting bras.

An improper fitting bra does not lift the weight off but makes the weight pull forward on the spine.
Here are the most common symptoms associated with a poorly fitting bra: headaches, shoulder tightness, difficulty breathing, rib pain, breast pain, shoulder pain and neck pain all of which will cause you to feel tired and slump forward even more. [ Note- these things are not because you don’t have enough pain medication in your body! ]
Here are 3 things you need to know:
1) A study in 2004 determined that seniors with FHP have an increased mortality rate due specifically to atherosclerosis ( heart disease ).
2) Chiropractic care can help reduce and prevent FHP thereby decreasing your risk of developing heart disease.
3) Life Chiropractic holds regular bra fitting clinics to make sure you are wearing the right bra the right way.
We strongly recommend that you have an annual bra-fitting as your breast size and shape is going to change with age, weight gain, weight loss, surgery (augmentation or reduction),and hormonal changes such as menstruation, pregnancy and menopause.
