Dementia And Posture

Dementia's Link To Posture

The World Health Organization states that 55 million people worldwide are currently suffering from dementia.

And not only that, they predict that this number will double every single year for the next year.

Posture has significantly declined during this digital age across all age groups.

In fact, pediatric posture is now frequently mimicking the posture of elderly people who suffer from dementia; that slouched over, humped back, forward head posture presentation that we have talked about many times before.

Recent research on posture shows that forward head posture restricts blood flow to the brain thus affecting the most fragile of cognitive functions including academic performance.

If you have children, have you noticed that they may have a foggy brain on occasion?

And/or are they not performing academically as well as they should be?

As a Certified Posture Expert, I may be able to help.Your first step would be to give us a call and schedule an appointment for a free initial consultation which also includes a detailed posture check.

Then I can show you for sure if there is connection between the two.

The phone number to call is 905 335 LIFE (5433).Or you can click the on the link (www.mobilefd) to schedule an appointment online at your convenience.

A shift in mere centimeters of head posture can have a profound impact on the trajectory of your child’s life!

Opioid Dependency

Children's Headaches From Forward Head Posture

Among many other health issues, stress is famous for causing headaches, neck pain and lower back pain.

The unfortunate thing, however, is that many people have been told that painkillers are the only solution to these problems.

But what is even more unfortunate is that when the over-the-counter painkillers stop working, many of these people are prescribed opioids.

It has been very well documented that opioids are highly addictive, and can have fatal consequences when used in excess.

The good news, however, is that there is a safe and natural solution.

It has also been well documented that people who get regular chiropractic adjustments to maintain good spinal alignment and a strong, healthy posture system are much less likely to use painkillers including opioids.

So if you or anyone in your family are relying too much on a pill bottle for any type of pain relief, I may be able to help.

Your first step will be to contact our office to schedule an initial consultation. These are complimentary. We can do these over the phone if you wish and, of course, right here in the office.

This will give us a good idea if you have a chiropractic case.

If you are ready to see me right away, you can click on this link www.mobilefd.ca/d/8880 to schedule an appointment for your initial consultation at your convenience.

The phone number to call us here in Burlington, Ontario is 905 335 LIFE (5433). Let’s get together to find out if I can help.

Children Headaches

Children's Headaches From Forward Head Posture

School will be starting soon and for many kids, this means backpacks, more time sitting at the computer and there is always that never-ending attachment to the cell phone.

Any one of these can cause forward head posture or tech neck.

Here are the most common signs and symptoms of tech neck; headaches, jaw tension, neck and shoulder pain and stiffness, fatigue and digital dementia (brain-fog).

Any one of these can have a significant impact on your child’s mood and/or academic performance.

If you have any such concerns with any of your children, I have a few suggestions for you.

One is I can send you more information on the many health implications related to tech neck.

Or, you can bring your kids in for a complimentary posture check.

This way we can find out for sure if there are any concerns and discuss what we can do about them.

Mom Back And Leg Pain

Moms' Suffering From Lower Back Pain And Leg Pain

You have 2 or 3 kids on the go; prepping meals, summer camps, laundry etc. and at the end of the day when you want to get out for a walk and decompress a bit, your back is too tired and achy.

You may also find yourself waking up during the night with a nasty cramp in your hamstring, calf, foot or toes.

And you may feel the lingering effects of the cramp for a day or 2 afterwards.

And then you may start to feel episodes of pain, numbness, burning and tingling down into your legs and feet.

Does this sound familiar?

If yes, read on till the end!Back pain and leg pain (sciatica) can be a very frustrating thing to deal with because it can take you right off of your game and significantly impair your activities of daily living.

Now is there anything you can do about this?

My first and best recommendation has always been to take the appropriate measures to minimize the chances of this happening in the first place.

This would be regular chiropractic check-ups to make sure that your spine is in good alignment and your posture system is strong and healthy.

When your posture system is strong and healthy, these types of problems are much less likely to happen.

But what if you weren’t being proactive with your spinal health?

I have 2 suggestions for you then;

One is to give us a phone call and we will send you some information on chiropractic and the connection between lower back pain and sciatica. I will also include some tips for home care.

Or, if you are ready to take action right now, when you call us mention that you saw this post and we will give you 40% off of your initial examination fees.Consultations are always complimentary.

In other words there is no charge to sit down and talk with me to determine if you have a chiropractic case.

And if we both agree that you do, the choice is up to you whether you want to proceed with the initial examination.905 335 LIFE (5433) is the number to call here in Burlington, Ontario.

Back And Leg Pain

Back Pain And
Leg Pain

Back pain and leg pain (sciatica) in seniors is a very common problem.

In fact, my last 3 senior new patients all presented with this same exact problem.

And this can be a very frustrating thing to deal with because back pain and leg pain can significantly impair your activities of daily living.

So, is there anything you can do about this?

Well, my first and best recommendation has always been to take the appropriate measures to minimize the chances of this happening in the first place.

This would be regular chiropractic check-ups to make sure you have good spinal alignment and your posture system is strong and healthy.

Being pro-active with your health is always far better than being re-active with your health.

Do you go to the dentist for regular check-ups? Do you take your car for regular oil changes etc.?

Remember that you can always replace your teeth or your automobile, but you can never replace your spine.

Which then is most worthy of regular attention?

However, if you were not being pro-active with your spinal health, I have 2 suggestions for you.

One is to give us a call and we will send you some information on the connection between back pain and leg pain. We will also include some tips for home care.

But if you are ready to see me right away, when you call mention that you saw this post.

This way you will be entitled to receive a 40% discount on your initial examination fees.

Remember that consultations are always complimentary; there is no charge to talk to me to determine if you have a chiropractic case.

The decision to follow through with a comprehensive examination is totally up to you.905 335 LIFE (5433) is the phone number to call here in Burlington, Ontario.

Sprained Ankles

How To Help A
 Sprained Ankle Heal

Over the past few weeks we have talked about kids, summer sports camps and how to manage those inevitable injuries.

And if you haven’t seen those posts yet, you can scroll down and check them out right here. You may find them to be helpful.

Today I am going to share a case history with you; this happened about a month ago.

A 10 yr old patient of mine sprained their ankle during baseball camp.

But within 10 days, they were right back at it playing baseball again.

So how did they heal so quickly?

First of all, they applied ice to the ankle, rested it for a few days and also had a few chiropractic adjustments.

You may be wondering …”can you adjust an ankle?”

Well, the answer to that question is ….”Absolutely! Yes you can.”

When you roll an ankle there are 2 little bones ( the talus and navicular) that frequently become misaligned.

And if they are not re-positioned, the ankle will be prone to rolling (spraining) over and over which will cause permanent damage to the ankle ligaments.

I also adjusted their lower back. Why would I do this?

Because the nerves from the lower back (sciatic nerve) control the leg all the way down to the foot.

So I adjusted the lower back to stimulate those nerves to expedite the healing process.

And there you have it!

If your kids do sprain an ankle, keep me in mind. I can help.

I am only a phone call away.

Kids Spinal Pain

Spinal Pain In Kids ...
What should Parents Do?

What should you do if your kids come home from summer camp complaining of a sore and stiff neck or lower back, or an achy knee or shoulder (for example)?

In my last post I reviewed some first aid tips for parents and if you haven’t seen that yet, you can scroll down and check it out right here.

But is there anything else that you should do?

Well, it has been my experience that the answer to this question is a definite ‘yes’.

When it comes to spinal pain (neck or lower back), the wise thing to do is have their spines checked for misaligned vertebrae.

When these are left undetected and uncorrected, they can cause chronic pain, eventual posture distortions (a crooked spine) which in time will result in osteoarthritic degenerative changes in the spine itself.

Similarly, regarding the skeletal joints (shoulders, elbows, hips, knees etc.), misalignments here when left undetected and uncorrected will eventually cause osteoarthritic degenerative changes in these joints also.

It is very important to understand this; most problems that I see in adults can be traced back to childhood trauma’s that were never dealt with properly in the first place.

The good news is that I can help with these type of issues. This is my expertise. I have been helping adults and children with such problems for many years.

And I am always here to help you as well.

I am just a phone call away.

Kids First Aid

First Aid Tips
For Parents

Last time we covered a couple of important things if your kids participate in summer activities including summer camps.

If you have not seen that post yet, you can scroll down and check it out right here.

Today I am going to review a couple of important first aid tips for you.The first being head trauma.

If your child has suffered any type of head trauma, you have to keep your eyes open for any signs of concussion.

These being headache, confusion, fatigue, nausea and vomiting.

If any of these signs or symptoms are present, please get your child to emerg right away for a thorough assessment.

Secondly; sprains, strains, bumps and bruises: what is best …. heat or cold?

You never want to put heat on a fresh injury. There is already a lot of inflammation at the injury site so adding heat will only make the inflammation worse.

Ice is always the best and safest thing to do as it’s a natural anti-inflammatory. Twenty minutes on and 20 off until you can have their injury properly assessed by a health professional.

And you may need to lightly wrap and immobilize if it’s an arm or leg injury.

And finally, how can you tell the difference between a sprain and a break?

Typically a sprain is going to puff up real fast and be quite painful. A broken bone on the other hand won’t swell as much and the pain may not be as severe.

But the only way to differentiate and know for sure is with an xray.If you ever need a quick xray in a circumstance like this, I can help you out.

We can get you in and out of my X-Ray clinic right away so you don’t have to spend 6 to 8 hours waiting at emerg.

In the meantime, if you need me you can reach me at 905 335 LIFE (5433).I am always here to help.

Kids Safety Tips

Safety Tips For Kids
Summer Camps

Summer camps will be starting soon and if your kids do participate in these, I have three important tips for you today.

First of all is hydration. Please be sure that your kids get adequate hydration throughout the day and water is always your safest and best choice.

Stay away from sugary drinks including fruit juice and sports drinks. Sports drinks can contain a lot of sugar and they can also be very hard on the kidneys.

Secondly, make sure they fuel properly before any activities. Veggies (steamed or raw) with a serving of protein (chicken/fish) and a serving of quinoa or brown rice is ideal a few hours before any activity.

If it’s a morning activity, use eggs as a source of protein. Egg whites and oatmeal is also a good power- meal first thing in the morning.

Throughout the day, snacking on fresh fruit is the best way for the kids to keep their energy levels up.

And finally, make sure your kids warm-up properly before any activity. Warming up for baseball will be different than golf, which will be different than gymnastics, which will be different then swimming, which will be different than soccer etc.

Going in to an activity cold (no warm-up) is when they are most likely to suffer from sprain/strain type injuries.

The warm up should be the due diligence of the specific instructor.

Next time I will review some first aid tips with you on how to manage those inevitable bumps and bruises and sprain/strain injuries.

In the meantime, if you need me you can reach me at 905 335 LIFE (5433).I am always here to help.
